Packaging design
Packaging for the UK
The UK has one of the most active independent brand scenes in Europe, from London beauty and fragrance labels to craft food, gin and candle makers across the country. Many sell through their own websites, marketplaces and a mix of independent shops and department stores, so packaging needs to work in a mailer and on a shelf.
UK customers increasingly expect packaging to be recyclable and free of unnecessary plastic, and EPR fees make material choices a cost question as well. We design paper-based rigid boxes, card inserts and right-sized mailers that look premium without mixed materials.
Many UK brands sell into the EU as well, and since Brexit a single label rarely covers both without planning. We design shared front panels with back panels that carry the right address, responsible person and language for each market. For gifting brands, Christmas is the biggest peak, so we plan approvals and production well ahead of the autumn rush.

Labelling and compliance
Labelling in the UK
Since Brexit, Great Britain follows UK rules based on retained EU law, while Northern Ireland follows many EU rules under the Windsor Framework. Prepacked food needs a UK address for the responsible business in GB, and cosmetics need a UK Responsible Person. Trading Standards enforce most labelling locally.
Last reviewed: 28 October 2026
- Food labels list 14 allergens, emphasised in the ingredients, with a minimum x-height of 1.2 mm for mandatory text (0.9 mm on small packs).
- Metric net quantity; the ℮ mark is still recognised for average-quantity packs.
- Cosmetics must be notified on the SCPN portal and name a UK Responsible Person.
- Packaging extended producer responsibility (EPR) applies to many businesses that place packaging on the UK market.
- Food sold in Northern Ireland follows EU labelling rules.

FAQ
Questions from United Kingdom
- Do UK food labels need a UK address?
- Prepacked food sold in Great Britain needs the name and a UK address of the responsible food business. Northern Ireland follows EU rules. Check GOV.UK for your product.
- Does UK packaging EPR affect my boxes?
- If you are an obligated producer, you report the packaging you place on the market and may pay fees. We can provide material weights per box to help.
- Do I need an EORI number to import boxes into the UK?
- Usually yes. Your customs broker can confirm what you need and handle import VAT and duty.
- Can you design UK-compliant cosmetic labels?
- We lay out the label text you and your UK Responsible Person supply, including INCI ingredients and the PAO symbol. Final review stays with you.
- Can you deliver to Northern Ireland as well as Great Britain?
- Yes. Labelling rules for NI can differ, so tell us where the products will be sold.
- Can one label work for the UK and the EU?
- Sometimes, with careful planning for addresses and responsible persons. Often a shared front with market-specific back panels is simpler.
- Which currency will my quote be in?
- Tell us your preferred currency when you ask for a quote. We confirm the currency and payment terms in the quote itself.
- Air or sea: which should I choose?
- Air for launches and urgent stock; sea for production volumes where the timeline allows. We quote both so you can compare.
- Can collapsible rigid boxes reduce my shipping cost?
- Yes. They ship flat, so many more fit in each carton, which cuts freight volume and storage. We compare assembled and flat options in your quote.
