Packaging design
Packaging for the United States
US brands often sell across several channels at once: their own Shopify store, Amazon, and a growing list of retailers. Packaging has to survive courier delivery, read clearly as a small thumbnail and still hold its own on a shelf. Many of the US brands we speak to want one design system that works for all three, with a sturdy mailer for direct orders and a retail carton for stores.
Premium gifting, subscription boxes and PR kits are strong categories, and rigid boxes with fitted inserts are popular for beauty, fragrance, jewellery and supplements. Because labour-intensive rigid boxes cost far more to make in the US, many brands import them; designing for flat-pack shipping keeps the landed cost down.
US retail buyers often ask for shelf-ready cases, specific barcode placement and carton labels that match their warehouse systems, and many marketplaces have their own prep rules. We plan these from the brief so the same boxes can move from your D2C launch into wholesale without a redesign. For brands selling in several states, we keep the back panel flexible for state-level warnings and claims.

Labelling and compliance
Labelling in the United States
US packaging rules depend on the product. The FDA covers food, dietary supplements, cosmetics and over-the-counter drugs; the FTC enforces the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act for many other consumer goods; the CPSC covers child safety, including child-resistant packaging. Alcohol labels are approved by the TTB.

- Net quantity in both metric and US customary units, in the bottom 30% of the main display panel for most consumer goods.
- Food uses the Nutrition Facts format; dietary supplements use Supplement Facts.
- Nine major food allergens, including sesame, must be declared.
- Cosmetics need a domestic contact for adverse event reports under MoCRA.
- Some states add their own rules, such as California's Proposition 65 warnings.

FAQ
Questions from United States
- Can you ship to my Amazon prep centre or 3PL in the US?
- Yes. Send us the address and any labelling or carton rules, and we pack and label the shipment to suit.
- Do US labels need both metric and imperial units?
- For most consumer goods, yes. The Fair Packaging and Labeling Act requires both metric and US customary units in the net quantity statement.
- Who handles US customs and duties?
- Someone in the US must act as importer of record, usually you or your customs broker. Duty depends on the product classification; your broker confirms it.
- Can you design Supplement Facts and Nutrition Facts panels?
- Yes. We typeset the panel in the FDA format from the data you supply. Final regulatory review stays with you and your adviser.
- Do you make boxes for US subscription brands?
- Yes. We design and make printed mailers and rigid boxes from 500 units, with inserts sized to your monthly selection.
- Can you design packaging for US retail and Amazon at the same time?
- Yes. We design one system with a strong front panel for shelf and thumbnail, robust structures for courier delivery, and barcode placement that works for both.
- Which currency will my quote be in?
- Tell us your preferred currency when you ask for a quote. We confirm the currency and payment terms in the quote itself.
- Air or sea: which should I choose?
- Air for launches and urgent stock; sea for production volumes where the timeline allows. We quote both so you can compare.
- Can collapsible rigid boxes reduce my shipping cost?
- Yes. They ship flat, so many more fit in each carton, which cuts freight volume and storage. We compare assembled and flat options in your quote.
